Book Week was really awesome. There were heaps of fun activities. I enjoyed the Book Quiz because it was really fun. My group got second. Book Week was really awesome. By Hamish On Tuesday the 31st of August, Ruma Weka went to the Waimate Preschool to read to some prschoolers.I read to Lily.I thought it was really fun. On Friday the 3rd of September we had a dress up day. I dressed up as Pippi Long Stockings.We had a parade of book characters. We had so much fun. By Georgia Book Week was really fun on Friday. We had to dress up as a book character. I dressed up as a witch thingy off King Arthur books. I dont read much so I had no idea that those books were even invented. By Gracie. During Book Week we did lots of activities, like making masks. There were lots of guest readers like Mr White. He was wearing his fire gear.At the end of the week we had a Book Quiz and my group came third which was really good. By Layton We went down to the pre school I forgot who I read to but he was cool. I read Max and the Big Yellow Tractor and also Itchy Itchy Chiken Pox. On Tusday Ruma Weka went to the Playcentre to read with the Preschool. The boy I read with was Kade. Kade listened for the whole time. It was really great.

During Book Week all the children had fun reading to each other for buddy reading. The best thing was designing a book cover from a book. I did The Dead End.I came 2nd. Another thing I liked was looking at all the dress ups that children came to school as. I enjoyed the whole week.

Book Week was great! The book quiz was awesome.There were so many questions that I didnt know but my group knew a lot. We came third equal with three other groups. My favourite part of Book Week was buddy reading. It was awesome listening to other kids read. What a great Book Week I had. I enjoyed the whole week.

During Book Week we read some books to other classrooms and had heaps of activities. On Wednesday we had a book quiz. A book quiz is where we get put into groups and answer questions about book characters and books. My group didn't get a place but I think we did well. The whole Book Week was awesome including reading and listening to the guest readers.

On the Wednesday of Book Week the school did a book quiz. Hamish and my team came in second place ! I liked naming the book character pictures because I had everyone involved.Book Week was my favourite week of the year!!

On the last day of Book Week we had a dress up day. I was Leif. Leif has a shield,sword and a cape. Zac was King Kong. He wore black. Hamish was a pirate. He had an eye patch and other things. Book Week was really fun and exciting!

During Term three Centennial School had Book Week. My favourite part was at the end of the week when we dressed up as a book character.I was Pippi Longstocking. I wore odd stockings and a top with patches on it. I really enjoyed Book Week!

On the last day of Book Week everybody dressed up as a book character. I dressed up as the White Witch from Narnia. We played some fun games during the week and had a book cover competition as well.

During Term Three we started our last Book Week for the Year 6 children. We had some really cool guest readers and got a chance to read to other children. On Friday children came dressed up like book characters and I dressed up as Kylie The Carnival Fairy, written by Daisy Meadow's. My favourite part was going to other classrooms for activites. It was the best! It was a shame that it ended so fast but we had loads of fun.

On Friday we had a dress-up day and it was really fun. There were a lot of different characters . There were lots of Pibbi Long Stocking's but I was the fierce King Kong and Nic was the Prince of Deltroa Leaf. Book Week is one of the best weeks in the year.

At Waimate Centennial School we have a Book Week. During the week we do many activities to do with books. My favourite part was on Friday. We dressed up as a book character. I was Pippi Longstocking. In the books she is the strongest girl in the world. You can be anybody you like,but it has to be a book character!

WAIMATE MUSEUM VISIT: "SIMPLE MACHINES."

While we were at the Museum we were looking at simple machines. We looked at pulleys. The flag pole had a pulley so the flag could zoom up the white pole. We looked at a wedge and tried to split a piece of wood. It was so awesome. By Hamish When Ruma Weka went to the Waimate Museum Nadine and Fred showed us around. First we looked at the flag pole which is a pulley. Next we went into a shed and had a look at some levers. After that we had a go with some hand -powered drills and a big pulley. By Ami Ruma Weka went to the museum to learn about pulleys, levers, wedges, ramps and wheels and axles.Nadine shwed us a butter machine.It is called a lever because of the handle you spin around.We also tried to put a screw through a piece of wood.It was a lot of hard work!The little screw went through easy but the big one took ages.Fred showed us how they used to split there wood.It looked quite hard! By Ella When we visited the museum we were looking at levers, pulleys, wedges, wheel and axles, screws and ramps.When we were at the levers we all got to hit a nail into a piece of wood,it took me for ever.The last thing we did was push a wheelbarrow up a hill to see if it was easier to go up the hill or go down it.I thought it was easier to go down the hill. Fred and Nadine were there showing us things.We had a go at hammering a nail into the wood.The reason why we went down there was because we are learning about simple machines. By Jessie May While we were at the museum we saw loads of simple machines.We got to split sticks with a big hammer and a wedge.Jerry got to hit a pole into the ground,but when he hit it it fell over and hit Jordan By Blair One of the simple machines we used at the museum was the wedge and what we learned was that it helps split wood.It makes life a whole lot easier.A lady called Nadine took us around the museum and let us do things to do with our topic. At the museum we went into the place where the pulleys are and we got to pull a heavy object up. We got to use a hand powered drill and it was quiet easy to use.

At the museum we went to look at the wedges,levers,wheel and axles,ramps,screws and pulleys. We got to have a go with a hammer as well as a pully. Nadine and Fred showed us the pulley, the hammer, screw, ramp, wheel and axle, lever and wedge and let us have a go at the things that were at the museum.

At the museum Fred showed us a pulley. The pulley lets you lift heavy loads up high. On the bottom of the pulley was something heavy. We each had a turn to lift it with our hands. It was really cool.

On Wednesday the class went to the museum. We were learning about Simple Machines . One of the things that we saw was a hammer. we also got to split a log. We had to use a wedge.

At the museum we used some drills . The hardest drill was the big one. The smallest drill was the easiest. Jordan and I drilled right though the wood .Fred spoke about the wedge and then he gave us a turn at splitting the wood . It was really fun.

Congratulations to all the children who competed in this years School X Country held recently at Knottingley Park. There were many excellent efforts and performances. Results for Ruma Weka children: 10 Year Old Boys - 1st = Kit 2nd = Liam 3rd = Isaac 10 Year Old Girls - 1st = June 2nd = Georgia 3rd = Courtney 9 Year Old Boys - 3rd = Layton. Well done to everyone!!!!

Te Waimate was awesome!I learnt heaps about the Cuddy and the three boys who lived in there for six years.To make the Cuddy warm inside they made a mixture of manure, mud and some other things.Their beds were made out of sacks and any other thing they could find.The roof was made out of tussock, and they used heaps of bundles.They tied them togther with wire and string.They also had another building that they stored their fruit in, like apples and stuff like that.I think the cuddy looked really old! By Ella On Wednesday we went to Te Waimate.I found out that the cuddy was the first house in Waimate.They have a really cool swimming pool.Its really dusty in the cuddy.The best part was sketching the cuddy. By Jerry Friday we went to the Museum It was fun.We went to an old classroom where people used to write on slates .We had a go. They also got the strap!OUCH!Every morning the teacher checked the childrens nails and if they wern't clean they would get the stap!!! OUCH! By Gracie On Friday we went to the museum.I found out quite a lot.The best thing was the school.It felt weird writing on the slates but it was easy though.I liked the marble game as well.I liked seeing the one dollar notes.We also got to use the drill where we drilled holes in the wood. It was so much fun there. By Jessie May On Wednesday the 5th of May the seniors of Waimate Centennial School headed off to Te Waimate. When we arrived we all sat down and talked about early Waimate. After that we walked around. We saw the first woolshed. It is one of the oldest working woolsheds in NZ. We also looked in the Cuddy abd it was tiny. By Abigail Petersen!!!!!!! We went to Te Waimate to learn about the cuddy and heaps of other things.We had a walk around Waimate.I learnt that the town clock was on the old Post Office a long time ago.The old Post Office is the Information Centre now.The Museum was really cool .We also got to play marbles. By Hamish On Wednesday we visited Te Waimate which is where the Cuddy is.When we arrived we went into a huge group and walked over to the Cuddy.We then went over to the barn and Mrs Studholme told us some things about it.I learnt a lot about Te Waimate. By Zoe On Wednesday the 5th of May We went to Te Waimate to learn about early Waimate. We went in cars. Ami and Abigail came in my car with Mum and I.When we got there we got together to meet Mrs Studholme the owner. First we went to sit down on the grass and talked about the cuddy. This was the first house built in Waimate By Europeans. It was so much fun! By June

At Te Waimate we saw a haunted barn.Well it looked haunted because it was old and dark.There were some hedges that looked like bombs.Inside the cuddy it was all dusty and cold.My favourite part of Te Waimate was the wool shed because of the machines.

One of the visits was a historic walk. We went all around town learning about old buildings, like the ANZ Bank and the Arcadia Theatre. I learnt about many things on the walk like dentals on the top of buildings and how they made the bricks for the Arcadia Theatre. Also how the buildings had big pillars on them.

On our walk we looked around town learning about Waimate. I learnt that the Senior Citizens Club was the old Waimate Fire Station. I also learnt that Quinns built the Arcadia. I liked it because we learnt lots and had fun. I also learnt what the Muesum was used for in the past. It was used as a court house. I liked the walk and I would like to learn more.

On Wednesday we went to Te Waimate and learnt a lot about the cuddy and the olden days.I learnt to tell your sheep apart from someone elses. They had a bellshaped piece of metal and they put it over the fire till it was nice and hot. They then would put it on the sheep until it left a scar for life,or they put hot tar on and put it on the sheep.

On Wednesday we went out to the Studholme's farm to see the cuddy.I had to duck down a wee bit to go through the door.Inside it smelt a wee bit though,then we went up to look at an old shearing shed.We saw a wool press made out of wood.It had a lever to make it press the wool into a big sack.

When half of the school went to Te Waimate it was cool. There were these cool shaped hegdes like stink bombs, but slightly different. There was a small house called the cuddy. It was a very tiny house but you can sleep in it. This was the first house built by Europeans in Waimate. Two people lived in it.

It was Wednesday and we were heading to Te Wamate. I was in Mr Burt's car.When we got there we met up with Mrs Studholme.She took us to the little house called the cuddy and talked about the house.I think it has lasted a very long time.We had a look in and then went to the old wool shed.

The senior school went to Studholme's Farm . We all jumped into different cars and went off. I found out what the two settlers names were. They were Paul and Michael Strudholme. I saw the sheep shed and the cuddy. I got to go into the cuddy. In the sheep shed there was a lot of wool. The wool had oil or grease in it. Were were not allowed any wool.

On Friday the 30 we went to the museum to learn about early Waimate. we went around different stations. we went into a little classroom and sat at wooden desks. In those days they used slates and slat pens. We got to write a letter on it. You could,nt push to hard or the pen would break.

On Friday the 30th we went to the museum to learn about early Waimate. We went from station to station. First we went to the classroom to see what it was like for the children. They had lots of wooden desks and some of them had ink wells. They had to bring an apple for the teacher. We found a wax apple and Courtney bumped a book and the apple broke by accident. It was funny because Jerry got the blame.

On Wednesday we went for a walk around Waimate and found out that the town clock was moved from the Infomation Centre to the clock tower. The musuem was fun when we were playing with things and it was the best thime in the world.

At the museum I learnt how to play marbles. It was so much fun and that night I played marbles. I also liked the old classroom where they used slates. The old pencils they used you can not push down hard because they will snap. It was fun.

The historical walk of Waimate was very good because it told me a lot about Waimate in the old days. The things that the lady told us about Waimate was the Arcadian Theatre, the cuddy house and the town clock.

ARTHUR'S PASS CAMP 2010

What A Camp!!!

At Arthurs Pass we had alot of fun.We had to do a Sensory Trail where we had a blindfold on and we had to hold on to a rope and follow it.The adults were split up and around the place.When I got to the second adult it was my dad and he said,"Mate are you enjoying it?"So I said "Yes!" and walked to the end By Megan On Monday the 29th of March Ruma Weka went to Arthur's Pass. On Tuesday we went on a Sensory Trail. We went to a track and we had to be blindfolded while following a long rope. On Wednesday we went on a day trip that took 6-8 hours for as round trip! I was really puffed when we got back to the lodge.I had so much fun at Arthur's Pass. By June What an awesome week Ruma Weka had at Arthurs Pass!!When we arrived at Arthurs Pass it looked totally different than what I imagined.I had a great time at Arthur's Pass. I hope I can visit again sometime By Zoe Arthur's Pass was a really fun camp . I really liked the stretcher making the most because I got to demonstrate how to lie on the stretcher an how to make it. The bunkrooms were really cool because they were three high bunks and I slept on the middle bunk for a night, then slept right on the top. Camp was really cool! By Layton On Monday we went to Arthur's Pass. I liked doing the sensory trail because you had to walk around holding a rope.I felt scared because you were blindfolded. I also liked the whole day walk because we got to go near rivers and throw stones. I also liked river crossing but the water was cold! I was a buddy with Jack. By Isaac Arthus Pass was a cool place to go.I had a lot of fun even though I was scared about going at first,but then it felt just like at home.But the bunks were different and high at first.I enjoyed camp and want to go again. by Jessie May One of the things that I liked wes the sensory trail because Mr Booth frightened most of the kids with the hole in a bridge story because of a tree falling over. By Cody I thought Arthur's Pass was so awesome.One of my favourite highlights was the whole day tramp.My favourite part of that was the river crossing by Kit On Monday the 29th of March Ruma Weka went on a bus to Arthur's Pass.We did some things like long walks,river crossing and playing games.We jumped on a train and drove half way home and then hopped on a bus. By Hamish My favourite parts were the all day walk and the river crossing because it was exciting getting wet and also when Kit and I were going through the puddles.I was excited.This was my favourite school camp! By Liam The best thing about Arthur's Pass was going river crossing, but the river was extremely cold and deep in some places.The funniest thing was when Jordan set off a stoat trap with a stick.He got a huge fright! By Blair On camp I really enjoyed doing the Sensory Trail. It was really peaceful and quiet on the trail so I didnt mind being blindfolded. At the end of the end of the trail Hamish's dad pretended that there were holes in the bridge and so we had to jump over these imaginary holes. On some parts I tripped because it was steep and at one stage I smashed right into a tree, but apart from that it was really fun. By Ami On our trip to Arthurs Pass we went river crossing. We crossed the Bealey River. It was freezing but it was still really fun. We crossed in a deep part but we had adults there to help us. Afterwards we had the choice of doing another crossing or going home. I chose to go back to camp. When we got back we had hot chocolate and took showers. I thought it was really fun. Zoe dabbed a wet cloth on my head and I got a really big fright. By Courtney Stuart Arthur's Pass was really fun. I liked the Sensory Trail because we had to get blindfolded. We had to hold onto a rope and walk along a path. At the end we had to jump over two holes in a bridge. It was really cool. By Georgia Young The thing I enjoyed at Arthur's Pass the most was the Punchbowl walk. The river crossings and the 6 hour walk were also fun. By Jack Creba My favourite activity was making pizzas. My pizza was called The Pyramid of Ham! Yummy! Do you want to know what I put on my pizza? I put on cheese,sauce,luncheon,mince and lots and lots of ham! When it came out of the oven it looked delieious. I ate it all. By Nicholas When we went River Crossing we got soaking wet because we went though heaps of deep water. We also went through shallow water. Later we went back to the lodge. We had a shower but some people went back to the lodge before others. We had a hot milo. By Jordan Wood. Arthurs Pass was awesome!!! I really enjoyed the activities we took part in. But my favourite part was doing the Sensory Trail which was where you had to walk around holding a rope and walking around a track. I felt really nervous when I was walking around the track but when you where half way around the the track it was not as scary! But the only thing I didnt like was we had a blindfold on. I didn't like it at all not being able to see,but I still enjoyed it.Some parts were hard because you lost hold of the rope!There was some adults around they track who were telling you where to go! When I came up to my Dad he yelled BOO! I jumped!Craig one of the other adults said there was a hole in the bridge because they have had bad weather,so we had to jump.But it turned out there was nothing wrong with the bridge! At the last one you got to pick if you wanted to go back to the lodge or do the last river crossing. By Zak When I arrived at Arthur's Pass I was really excited as soon as I got off the bus.
